Stay fresh with washing soda

Early in my writing career I had an editor who didn’t like it when I used the word “sweat.”

Well, as much as I’d like not to sweat (or, if you prefer, perspire), it’s summer, and the world is hot, and I, for one, sweat.

This means my running clothes can get a little smelly over time.

The very worst items are the “non-stink” ones – they might not stink for a while, but once they do … just try washing that out.

Or, no. Please don’t. Soak them first. In washing soda.

As a natural, highly alkaline cleaning agent that effectively removes stains, softens water, and neutralizes odour, washing soda is, essentially, a stronger version of baking soda.

I love it because it’s inexpensive, biodegradable, non-toxic … and keeps my running clothes from smelling, even in July.

I tend to order mine from Simply Clean – a Canadian company.

All you need are a scoop of washing soda, a bucket, and a bit of time, and you just might be able to rescue some of your clothes you thought were past saving.
