The tailored vest first made its comeback a couple of years ago, when a renewed interest in power dressing took over following a pandemic spent in sweats and other comfy clothes.
In fact, the preferred way to wear the garment has been anything but casual: Fashion editors, influencers, and other street-style stars typically see their tailored vests as a replacement for the blouse—that is, they wear the vest without anything on underneath—and pair it with oversized wide-leg pants.
That’s still the in vogue look this summer, though the range of possibilities when it comes to women’s vests has expanded a little more. In addition to the cropped versions that fit at the navel, slightly longer tailored vests are also becoming more popular. And they make for a perfect alternative to the classic white T-shirt in your wardrobe thanks to a more conservative collar. Wear with all the buttons fastened and pair with pants or shorts in the same print for a sophisticated result.
Also interesting: Opt for tailored pieces in different tones, or with lines that are a little out of the ordinary. For example, a long white vest can look great with a pair of dark gray pleated pants and black accessories, as seen above. Or wear a halter-neck vest in an irresistible butter yellow that can be contrasted with a much more vibrant skirt.
